FCT, Abuja – The African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Wednesday, August 6, said reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refused to recognise the new leadership of the party under Senator David Mark “is entirely false”.
In a statement by Bolaji Abdullahi, its national spokesperson, shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, the ADC said Mark remains its interim national chairman.
Abdullahi tweeted:
“The attention of ADC has been drawn to a story circulating that the @inecnigeria has refused to recognise the new leadership of our party under the Distinguished Senator David Mark.
“This story is entirely false and should be ignored. We urge Nigerian people to ignore such misleading reports from any quarters and stay focused on mobilising the long suffering people of Nigeria for the great task to save our dear country.”
Opposition’s adoption of ADC as coalition platform
Legit.ng recalls that in July, opposition figures in Nigeria adopted the ADC as the official coalition platform. The coalition was reportedly galvanised by Atiku Abubakar after the former vice president had urged other opposition leaders in the country to come together in order to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

During the adoption of the party, the party’s national leadership reportedly stepped down for the coalition to appoint new interim executives for the party. Former Senate President Mark, ex-Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, and erstwhile minister Abdullahi currently serve as the national chairman, secretary and publicity secretary, respectively.

Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua denies joining ADC
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that ahead of the 2027 election, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the federal lawmaker representing Katsina Central, said he remains “a committed member” of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Yar’Adua stated this on his official X handle, in reaction to speculations that he joined the ADC.
In his statement, Senator Abdulaziz said it is essential to clarify that not all individuals sharing the Yar’Adua surname imply a political association with him.
