Air Peace CEO Allen Onyema says the airline has not yet gone public because it is focused on laying a solid foundation first.
At the 2025 League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) conference, Onyema was responding to a panel question about funding possibilities for the aviation sector.
When a business goes public, it sells shares to the general public via the stock exchange of that nation, such as the Nigeria Exchange Group (NGX).
This process improves regulatory control and scrutiny while enabling organizations to raise capital without going through banks.
The chairman of Air Peace stated at the event that the decision to maintain confidentiality stems from the need to create a lasting legacy and safeguard the interests of employees and stakeholders.
“We want to build a legacy that will stand the test of time. Some people have told me I can raise up to $100 billion with all the aircraft I have ordered,” the CEO said.
“If it were about money, I would have done that (listed) a long time ago. I would have gone public, maybe made money as some people advised me, and walked away. But it’s not about that.”
“I am thinking about the over 4,000 people who are working with Air Peace today. I am thinking of them.”
Onyema explained that one of the reasons for delaying the listing on the capital market is to avoid external pressure from minority shareholders, who could disrupt the company’s philanthropic and people-oriented operations.
“I am thinking of the people who would take us to court every day after investing just 0.5 percent,” he said.
“They may not allow us to continue some of the philanthropic work we do.”
Going public remains a long-term goal for the airline, Onyema stated, but only after a strong foundation has been established.
Air Peace to begin flights from Abuja to London
Legit.ng reported that Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has announced plans to commence direct flights from Abuja to both London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports starting October 26, 2025.
Air Peace will become the first Nigerian carrier to operate direct services from the country’s capital to both of the United Kingdom’s major international gateways.
The airline said the new routes will be operated using its Boeing 777 aircraft, offering passengers a comfortable long-haul experience.
