The much anticipated biopic film “Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti,” produced and directed by Bolanle Austen Peters, is getting ready for a national premiere on May 17, 2024.

The film shines a spotlight on the life and legacy of one of Nigeria’s most fearless female leaders, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, who challenged both colonial rule and gender barriers that reshaped Nigeria’s history.

It begins from her early days as the first female student at Abeokuta Grammar School to her role in founding the Abeokuta Women’s Union alongside her husband, Israel Ransome-Kuti.

The biopic captures her relentless activism and the fierce battle she waged against traditional and colonial rulers who sought to oppress her people.

With the movie featuring stellar actors such as Joke Silva, Kehinde Bankole, Adunni Ade, Ibrahim Suleiman, Jide Kosoko, Dele Odule, Adebayo Salami, Iremide Adeoye, yimide Ayo-Olumoko, and Keppy Ekpenyong among others.

After the film’s limited screening in 2023 at the Silverbird Cinema in Victoria Island, Lagos, the film received rave reviews, paving the way for its much-anticipated nationwide release.

“Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti” successfully captured hearts and accolades, by winning two prestigious awards at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) for Best Overall Feature Film and Best Screenplay.

Bolanle Austen Peters’ masterful direction, coupled with Tunde Babalola brilliant storytelling, promises audiences a captivating cinematic experience that transcends mere entertainment.

“Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti” movie With its submission to the Oscars Academy for consideration, has the potential to make history and take its place in the world record.
