Veteran thespians Nkem Owoh and Sani Ma’azu were on Saturday honoured with the distinguished Industry Merit Award at the 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), a tribute to their decades of stellar artistry and lasting impact on Nigeria’s film industry.
Nkem Owoh, affectionately known as Osuofia, is a celebrated icon whose multifaceted career spans comedy, acting, music and scriptwriting. At 70, he remains a prominent figure in Nollywood, renowned for his humour, impeccable timing and magnetic on-screen presence that has influenced generations of filmmakers and audiences alike.
Sani Ma’azu, equally revered, has long stood as a cornerstone of Hausa-language cinema, championing cultural storytelling and enriching the industry with his authentic voice.
This AMVCA accolade not only commemorates their enduring legacies but also highlights the powerful blend of talent, dedication and cultural resonance that fuels African cinema.
Organised annually by Multichoice, the AMVCA recognises excellence in television, film, entertainment, and digital media across Nollywood and the broader African creative landscape.
The award gala was hosted in Lagos, Nigeria, and aired live on all Africa Magic platforms. Winners were selected through a blend of public votes and decisions made by a jury panel.
Nominations spanned projects released from January 1 to December 31, 2024, highlighting standout works in film, television and digital formats.
