APC Suffers Huge Setback As Former Party Chairman, 150 Members Defect to PDP in Abuja ▷ Nigeria news

Godwin Poyi, a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Kuje council area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Vanguard newspaper, citing the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reported that the politician led over 150 members to the PDP on Monday, May 24.

The defectors reportedly handed over their APC membership cards, brooms, and posters in replacement for the umbrella of the PDP.

According to them, they decided to join the PDP because they were dissatisfied with the approach of APC policies in their area.

Godwin Poyi said:

“We decided to join the PDP to contribute to the development of Kuje Area Council and the country as a whole.

“Our stay in APC has not been encouraging. APC policies and approach have not encouraged democracy and governance in the area council.”

The APC defectors were received by the chairman of PDP in Kuje area council, Ismaila Mohammed.

The PDP chieftain said more defectors were still coming to the party for the development of democracy in Kuje.

Meanwhile, Professor Ivara Ejemot Esu, the deputy governor of Cross River state, has officially resigned his membership of the PDD and joined the APC.

The deputy governor’s official defection comes days after his principal, Ben Ayade, joined the ruling party.

Africa Independent Television (AIT) reported that the deputy governor decided to make his defection official on Monday, May 24, to stop speculations that he did not follow Governor Ayade to the APC.

In another news, Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, May 24, said that if he leaves the PDP the political party will suffer.

Daily Trust reported that Wike made the remark less than a week after Governor Ben Ayade dumped the opposition for the All Progressives Congress.

The governor during a briefing at the Government House, in Port Harcourt, bragged about what the opposition party will experience should he make a decision to leave.
