Joan Laporta who is the president of Barcelona has explained that the club are still discussing with Lionel Messi over the possibility of him signing a new deal at the Nou Camp.

Lionel Messi’s contract at Barcelona is now on the verge of coming to an end at Barcelona and the Argentine has not signed a new deal with the Spanish giants.

Before the start of last season, there were reports linking Lionel Messi to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, but the Argentine agreed to remain at the Camp Nou.

According to the report on Mirror, Laporta explained that Lionel Messi is a great player who the club wants to stay and hope the Argentine would sign a new contract.

“The new contract is going well but it is not done yet.

“The executives are working hard to give him a good proposal but one that is within our financial means.

“We hope that this will be accepted by the player. He loves Barca and of course we all want him to continue and we hope that he will.”
