The Elephant of Cote d’Ivoire has become the winner of the 2023 African Cup of Nations by defeating the Super Eagles of Nigeria with two goals to one at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Sunday night, February 11.
The Ivory Coast is the host of the 34th edition of the competition.
They defeated Nigeria with two strikes from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller, which saw off the opening goal by the Eagle’s captain, Troost-Ekong.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria had entered the final of the competition to win the trophy for the fourth time, while the Elephants competed to win the title for the third time, having won it in 1992 and 2015.
Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire have survived the strong Group A, with Equatorial Guinea becoming the group leader with the same point as Nigeria but with goal differences. However, the Elephant made it to the third-place team and qualified for the round 16 of the competition.
