Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the director of defence information, announced this in a terse statement on Sunday, June 30.

According to Leadership, the statement stated that the former CDS died in the early hours of Sunday in Abuja.

Who is Ogohi?
Admiral Ogohi is from Okura, Lafia, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State and served as the chief of defence staff from 1999 to 2003 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The statement tersely read:
“With deep sorrow, I announced the death of Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (rtd), a former Chief of Defence Staff (1999-2003). He passed on in Abuja in the early hours of today.”
According to a family source, the late chief of defence staff has been suffering from old age sickness before his death at his house in Abuja on Sunday.
The late Ogohi was the first naval officer to be crowned four stars in the Nigerian military and the first chief of defence staff from the navy.
Tinubu gives fresh order on soldiers’ killings
Legit.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu has described the killing of soldiers in the Southeast as a treasonable act and condemnable.
According to the Defence Headquarters said that the soldiers were attacked in Aba, Abia state, by members of proscribed IPOB and ESN during sit-at-home.
Tinubu then ordered the military to catch the perpetrators of the act, adding that the military’s restraint should not be interpreted as weakness.
Tinubu comments on suit against governors
President Tinubu commented on why the federal government took the 36 governors to court.
The President gave the hint while addressing the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum on Thursday, May 30.
According to the President, governors need to prioritise local communities while lamenting the neglect of the local government.
