Port Harcourt, Rivers – There seemed to be an end to the political crisis rocking Rivers state as Edison Ehie, the lawmaker representing the Ahoada East Constituency II in the state house of assembly, withdrew the suit against 25 of the 27 lawmakers.
Ehie, a close ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, declared vacant the seat of the 27 lawmakers after the latter defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Channels TV reported.

However, two of the lawmakers later dumped the APC and returned to the PDP. Ehie was the factional speaker who led five lawmakers loyal to Fubara.

Recall that Governor Fubara has been in a fierce political battle with his godfather and predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Following the declaration, Ehie filed a contempt proceeding at the state high court in Port Harcourt against the 25 lawmakers to challenge their legislative activities and sittings.

In a dramatic turn of events, Ehie resigned as the speaker and member of the house of the assembly after Wike and Fubara signed a peace deal.
Now, the former lawmaker discontinued and withdrew the suit seeking to sack the 25 lawmakers.
On Thursday, January 4, counsel to the former lawmaker, Mac-Barango Esq, told the court about the notice of discontinuance that his client had filed. He said that the court should give effect to the defendant and did not challenge the defendant’s request. Therefore, the court struck out the petition.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the PDP crisis is far from coming to an end, as the leaders were reportedly engaged in the battle. This situation has stalled the rebuilding efforts.
The bigwigs in the party, including former vice president Atiku Abubakar and the governors, were said to be eyeing to have control of the party.
