Tinubu declares free train rides for travelers on the Christmas and New Year

According to the presidency, the federal government has said that train travelers will pay nothing during the period.

The statement added that the cut in transportation will begin on Thursday, December 21 and end on January 4.

The tweet reads:

“President Tinubu says the Federal Government will bear 50% of the transport fares for interstate road travellers during Christmas and New Year. Train rides will be absolutely free. The policy takes effect from 21 December and ends 4 January 2024.”

What happened after Tinubu removed the fuel subsidy

The development is coming at a time when many Nigerians are complaining about the state of living in the country due to the removal of fuel subsidies.

President Tinubu announced the removal of the fuel subsidy on the day of his inauguration, which has increased the cost of living across the country, including transportation.

Since removing the subsidy, the president has announced different palliatives to cushion the effect on the lives of Nigerians.

The new government has also been able to stop the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates from embarking on an industrial action.

Naira scarcity: NLC threatens Tinubu, CBN with mass protest earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu-led federal government and the CBN have been threatened with another protest by the NLC national president, Joe Ajaero.

Ajaero, in a statement, said a massive public protest is imminent if Tinubu and the CBN fail to address the growing naira scarcity menace currently hunting the country.

The NLC president said Nigerians should not be subjected to experiencing naira scarcity again as they did earlier this year.
