However, it was learnt that Governor Yusuf was still at Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s palace when the security operatives stormed the government house.

Kano: How Governor Yusuf deposed Ado Bayero

Governor Yusuf deposed Ado Bayero on Thursday, May 23, and announced Muhammadu Sanusi II’s reinstatement on Friday, May 24.

Bayero was installed in 2020 by the administration of ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje following the signing of the Kano Emirates Council Law (2019) bill, which was earlier passed by the state assembly.

However, the current assembly repealed the law, abolishing the five emirates created by Ganduje’s administration.

After signing the repealed law, Governor Yusuf directed the affected emirs, including Ado Bayero, to vacate their offices immediately and hand them over to the minister of local government and chieftaincy affairs within 48 hours.

The royal tussle in the state escalated after a court restrained the governor from installing Sanusi. Still, the governor went ahead, saying that the judge who gave the order was not in Nigeria.
