Yenagoa, Bayelsa – Timipre Sylva, the former minister of state for petroleum and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa, has appealed the ruling of the Federal High Court that nullified his candidature in the forthcoming election.
According to The Nation, the former governor of Bayelsa State faulted the verdict of Justice Donatus Okorowo and prayed the court to dismiss the ruling of the High Court and uphold his candidature.

Why court disqualifies APC candidate in Bayelsa
On Monday, October 9, Justice Okorowo, in his ruling, said Sylva had been sworn in on two different occasions and has governed Bayelsa State for five years and, therefore, cannot be sworn in for the third time.

In another application, the former minister sought to stay the execution of the ruling until the hearing and determination of his appeal.
Sylva resigned as minister of state for petroleum under the immediate past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to contest for the APC governorship ticket.
How APC lost Bayelsa four years ago
Four years ago, David Lyon of the APC was disqualified after winning the 2019 election because of a forgery suit instituted against his deputy.
This was how the APC lost the state to Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who came third in the election.
Sylva is contesting to stop the second-term ambition of Diri in the forthcoming election in the state.
Buhari’s aide confirms petroleum minister of state Sylva’s resignation
Legit.ng earlier reported that the minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, has resigned to pursue his governorship ambition in Bayelsa.
Sylva’s resignation was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, the special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital Communication.
It was earlier rumoured that Sylva was trying to evade the APC guideline that require him to resign before he could contest the party’s primary.
