BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Peter Obi’s Running Mate’s Brother Hakeem Baba-Ahmed As Special Adviser

FCT, Abuja – The spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the special adviser on political affairs to Vice President Kashim Shettima.

His appointment surprised many as he has been a strong critic of the APC-led administration over the years.

Baba-Ahmed’s appointment was made known on Monday, September 18, via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

He wrote:

“It is time to make it public that I have accepted the call to serve as Special Adviser (Political) to the VP, @KShettim.

“This is not the time for fence-sitting or criticism when you can be useful in turning the country round. I am honored and humbled. Please pray for me & Nigeria”

The appointment of Baba-Ahmed might likely raise eyebrows as he is the elder brother of Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party presidential running mate of Peter Obi, a political rival of the APC and Tinubu.

The LP is currently challenging the APC’s victory during the last presidential election in court.

This makes it the second person the presidency has poached from the camp of Yusuf Datti after the appointment of Professor Tahir Mamman as the Minister of Education.

Mamman, until his appointment, was the Vice Chancellor of the famous Baze University, Abuja, owned by Yusuf Datti.

Tinubu appoints Muri-Okunola, Yakasai, 14 others as aides

In another development, Tinubu appointed Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the Lagos State Head of Service, as his principal secretary.

The 51-year-old lawyer would reunite with Tinubu years after they worked together in Lagos state.

In 2001, Tinubu appointed him as a special assistant during his stint as governor of Lagos.

Tinubu also appointed several other special assistants recently including Tanko Yakasai, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, and Moremi Ojudu.
