In a tragic turn of events, two policemen attached to the Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Kingsley Ikoro, have been reportedly killed in an ambush by unidentified gunmen in Okigwe, Imo state.

As reported by Vanguard, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 3, while the officers were traveling with the lawmaker and his entourage.

One of the vehicles reportedly developed a mechanical fault, causing the policemen to remain behind as the rest of the convoy continued.

Amid the delay, gunmen attacked and killed the officers.

Imo state police confirmed incident

Reacting via a statement issued on Monday, August 4, the spokesperson for the Imo state police command, Henry Okoye, vowed that the killers would be apprehended.

Okoye said:

“There is no hiding place for those behind this heinous crime.”

“The bodies of the officers, who paid the supreme price in the line of duty, have been evacuated to a morgue, and a thorough investigation is underway.”

Speaking further, he added that tactical teams have begun combing surrounding bushes in a manhunt for the perpetrators, assuring that they will face the full wrath of the law.

The report confirmed further that Okigwe area is widely regarded as a hotspot for violent attacks in Imo state.

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that a former House of Representatives member, Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, was whisked to an unknown destination by gunmen suspected to be bandits.

The former lawmaker’s police orderly was killed in the attack that occurred between Nunku in Nasarawa state and Gwantu in Kaduna state.

The Nasarawa state police command is yet to release an official statement regarding the unfortunate incident.
