Omo Ajorosun Club, Ibadan, has elected a new exco to run the affairs of the club for the next tenure. The new exco is headed by a renowned businessman and community leader, Engr Sunday Gbenjo.

Gbenjo emerged as president of the foremost social-cultural at its April 28 election. He polled a total of 71 votes to defeat his opponent, Dr. Robinson Omotajo, who secured 47 votes.

The by-election was held as result of the demise of the 22nd President of the Club, Engr Akinpelu Solomon Adeniji, who passed away less than a year that he became President.

Interestingly, the late president and the new one are both engineers of international repute. Late Akinpelu Adeniji was a retired Chevron Engineer while Sunday Gbenjo is an electronics engineer.

As new President of Omo Ajorosun Club, however, Sunday Gbenjo, no doubt, will bring his wealth of experience and connections to bear on the club

He has all it takes to drive the club to the next level. His intimidating c.v, exposure and impeccable character will also play major roles in his new post. In fact, it would be an understatement to say that Gbenjo has tremendous charisma and clout to steer the affairs of the club.

Let’s tell you more about this astute businessman.

Engr (Balogun) Sunday Oyekanmi Gbenjo was born in Ibadan about 60 years ago to the family of Elder Oyetunji Atanda Gbenjo of Ile Akere Compound.

He attended Igbo Elerin Grammar School, Ibadan between 1979 and 1983. Gbenjo, as he is fondly called, is a graduate of Telecom/Electronics Engineering of the Nigerian Naval School of Engineering (1985-1990).

As result of his strong passion for knowledge, Gbenjo also had his Executive MBA Certificate from Business School Netherlands (BSN). He’s a product of CEM5 class of Lagos Business School.

Gbenjo has attended several leadership and management courses both locally and overseas.

He is a member of IEEE and NSE. He has worked as a Higher Technical Officer with Nigeria Naval Dockyard and a Nigerian Naval Ship-NNS Erinmi for a period of 2 years (1993 to 1995).

In 1995, he joined RT Briscoe PLC and rose through the ranks to become the National Manager (Sales and Service), a position he held untill he left the company in 2001. Same year, he establish his own company, Total Telecom Nigerian Ltd, an authorised Nigerian leading Distributor of Motorola 2- way radio communication system.

Total Telecom Solution company is a major service provider and security consultant to CBN, UN Nigeria, NPF, Nigeria Army and most of the states government security Agencies in Nigeria including Nasarawa, Benue, FCT Abuja, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti and Lagos.

Gbenjo is a serial investor with heavy investment in Telecom and Security Services.

Apart from telecoms and electronic engineering, Gbenjo has as well diversified into other areas of business. He’s lately into Waster to Wealth Service Management.

He’s the founder and Chief Promoter of Mannasseh Engineering Company, a leading waste and recycling company in Oyo and Ogun States.

He’s also a Director with an Abuja based Cybersecurity company Discount Cellular (Cash & Carry).

Gbenjo is not only successful in his private life and business but also in humanitarian and community services. He’s is a philanthropist per excellence.

He’s an active member of Rotary Club of Nigeria. In fact, Rotary Club of Isolo under his watch as President (2008-2009) won the second overall in Rotary International District 9110 that same year. He’s a major Donor and former Assistant Governor in Rotary District 9110.

His personal NGO, Oyetunji Gbenjo Foundation, has provided eye glasses /drugs and deworming medications at no cost to more than 10000 children and adults in the South West Nigeria and beyond. The positive impacts of the Foundation has gone and still going round Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti and Kwara Stares.

Gbenjo is also the Chairman, Board of Trustees of another NGO called Fill in the Gaps Outreach. The NGO is specially focused on women empowerment and the girl child.

Balogun Sunday Gbenjo is an active member and a past President of Lagos Chapter of Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO). EO is the biggest peer to peer network for upscale business owners that seek for growth and business expansion beyond borders with their headquarters in Washington DC.

Not only that, he’s also s a member of the United States of America commercial service and also a member of Nigerian-British Chambers of Commerce.

He is the current President of a pressure group, Inukan Development Forum, a pressure group seeking for the Infrastructural Development of Ajia and other nearby 235 villages in Inukan LCDA in Ona Ara LGA of Oyo State.

As he’s well known and recognized in the business, Gbenjo also commands a lot of respect in the social circle. He’s a socialite per excellence. He’s the immediate past President of a Lagos based club, De Zenate Social Club of Nigeria.

He’s a member of the prestigious Island Club in Lagos.

Gbenjo is also a member of Polo Club.

He was Chairman, 2023 Ibadan Week Celebration under Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) and the Chairman, Omo Aj’orosun Day Celebration 2023 with an impressive turn out.

He’s a founding member of Comity83 Club (class of 83 graduands of old students of Igbo Elerin Grammar School, and the first BOT Chairman of the same group).

Gbenjo is a Christian and the Balogun Ijo of the Saint Paul Anglican Church, Ajia. He’s happily married with children.
