According to Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, the new salary scheme is introduced to encourage teachers in delivering better service.

It is not clear whether the federal government has consulted with state governors before announcing the date the increment will take off as some of them raised an objection.

A report filed by The Nation at the time indicated that the Nigerian governors were not happy about the new salary package.

It was gathered that going by the conditions given by the governors, only teachers on the employ of the federal government would enjoy the new salary package and improved condition of service granted by the president.

According to the report, the governors were shocked that the federal government did not consult them before unilaterally announcing the package.
