Greenfield: Sheikh Gumi Opens up on when Abducted Students will be Released ▷ Nigeria news

– The kidnapped Greenfield university students will soon be released from captivity, according to Sheikh Ahmad Gumi

– Gumi explained that negotiations are ongoing with the bandits to secure the freedom of the students

Two weeks after the abduction of students from Greenfield University, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has shared an update concerning the release of those still in captivity.

The Nation reports that the prominent Islamic cleric said the remaining 16 kidnapped students would be freed soon.

Recall that the bandits who abducted some students from a private university in Kaduna threatened to kill the remaining 17 in their custody if their demands are not met.

The criminals are asking for a ransom of N100 million as well as 10 brand Honda motorcycles.

Gumi made this known to newsmen on Thursday, May 5, at his Kaduna residence after receiving parents of freed students of Federal College of Forestry, Afaka who paid him a ‘thank you visit’.

While assuring that negotiations were ongoing with the bandits, the cleric confirmed that none of the students had been killed following their last thread.

The cleric went on to note that though the ransom of N100 million has not yet been paid, the bandits, however, reduced their initial demand, The Punch reports.

Meanwhile, reported that Gumi, on Tuesday, May 4, urged CBN to pay the N100million ransom being demanded by the kidnappers in Kaduna state.

Gumi who has been at the forefront of championing amnesty for the terrorists said the federal government must not take the threat by the kidnappers lightly.

In reaction to the comments of a parent of one of the abductees who lamented that the kidnappers were insisting on a ransom of N100million before their wards are safely released to them.

In a related development, former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has asked Gumi, to disclose if he is taking a side with bandits and terrorists or with the Nigerian people.

A Twitter user who wondered why the cleric hasn’t been picked up by the Department of State Services (DSS) over his comments asked Garba about what he thought about Gumi’s activities.
