Popular Ghanaian showbiz personality, Mark Okraku Mantey, has revealed that he has never paid tithe to any church before.
According to the president of the Creative Arts Council, his decision was influenced by a renewed Church of Christ pastor, Dan Owusu Asiamah.
Speaking on Accra-based radio station, Mantey noted that Dan Asiamah has taught him that, there are scriptures which states that payment of tithe was for a particular era in the bible.
Mantey said: “He even backs his submissions with bible quotations…because I don’t know the bible too well, I will not try.”

Tithe refers to one-tenth of annual produce or earnings, formerly taken as a tax for the support of the Church and clergy.
In Ghana, some individuals exercising their religious faith take one-tenth of their monthly salaries or income to the church as a sign of obedience to the word of God. It is believed that doing this will cause God to shower his blessings on his people.
But, Mantey is not convinced that some churches don’t use the money paid as tithe for the ‘work of God’.

The showbiz personality stressed that some religious leaders in Ghana are still encouraging tithe because of their own selfish interests.
“Let’s find out from those who work in the church whether they benefit from the tithe given in church. They are supposed to be beneficiaries of that money. Why are we saying that we don’t want an eye for an eye because it is in the Old Testament? But as for tithe, we like it because some people are benefiting.”
This is not the first time issues of tithe and offering have come up for media discussion. Nigerian media personality Daddy Freeze is known for speaking against tithes and offerings.
