LG Election: Emir of Kano Sends Key Message to Citizens, Details Emerge

Kano, Kano state – Muhammadu Sanusi, the Emir of Kano, has urged parents to guide their children properly to prevent them from being used to cause mayhem during Saturday’s local government council elections in the state.

As reported by The Cable, Sanusi made the call on Friday, October 25, while addressing the press ahead of the local government council elections scheduled for Saturday, October 26.

Sanusi said:

“I am addressing the people of Kano and urging all of you—parents, ward heads, village heads, imams, and district heads—to call the youth to order and ensure they are not used by the state’s enemies to create violence, leading to loss of lives and destruction of property.”

Legit.ng reports that Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano state, had declared that the LG polls will be held despite a court ruling prohibiting the process.

On October 22, a federal high court in Kano restrained Sani Malumfashi, the chairman of the state’s electoral commission, from conducting the LG polls.

However, the Kano state high court on Friday, October 25, ordered the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) to proceed with the elections as scheduled.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano urged Governor Yusuf to obey the court ruling stopping the conduct of local government elections in the state.

In a statement, the APC chairman in Kano state, Abdullahi Abbas, asked Governor Yusuf and the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to desist from taking any action that could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the state.
