FCT, Abuja – President Bola Tinubu forwarded the names of 28 ministerial nominees to the Senate on Thursday, July 27, in what can be described as a strategic move to beat the July 29 deadline set by the constitution.
From the list, some states are yet to have ministerial nominees based on analysis, and reference to the state of origin of those that have been nominated to work with the President in the next four years.
The Nigerian constitution compelled the President to appoint at least one minister from each state, and the minister shall be an indigene of that state.
How ministers always emerge in Nigeria history
History has it that there are always differences in how ministers come from each state, meaning that some states produced more than one, but at least, one comes from each state.
Already, analysis of the list indicated that states like Katsina, Cross River and Bauchi States already have two ministers in the list forwarded to the Senate on Thursday, while 11 states are yet to have any nominee.
In the case of female ministers who are married, they often represent their home states in the cabinet. Only Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has represented her husband’s state, (Abia) in 2003.
