Magixx reveals why breakout artists are becoming rare

Nigerian singer Magixx has expressed frustration over the hurdles faced by emerging artists in gaining recognition, claiming that top positions on Apple Music charts are ‘being bought’ rather than earned through talent or organic popularity.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Mavin Records act alleged, “Just so y’all know, the reason why we don’t have enough breakout artists these days is because almost every spot on Apple Music is bought.”

Magixx also criticised fellow artists for faking their streaming numbers and misleading their families about their musical success. “Y’all faking your numbers. I hope you sleep well at night… Keep deceiving your family members,” he added.

Rapper Blaqbonez backed Magixx’s claims, describing the trend as damaging to the integrity of the Nigerian music industry.

Corroborating his statement, rapper Blaqbonez wrote, “The irreversible damage we’ve done to our industry, one day it’d finally come crumbling down. For now, let’s keep acting like the charts mean anything more than a showcase of the people who can afford to buy it; it’s like iTunes in the 2000s all over again. Make I go hustle”.

He added: “Ayra’s hot body never enters the top 10 NG, when we know that song should be number 1 or top 3, but how dem go let me, when she never does industry agriculture”.
