A man has been charged after RuPaul’s Drag Race star The Vivienne reported a homophobic attack earlier this year.

The incident took place at a McDonald’s on Edge Lane in Liverpool on 16 June, according to Merseyside Police.

The force said the victim was approached by a man who made homophobic comments before punching him in the face.

Alan Whitfield, 50, of Everton, has now been charged with assault by beating.

He will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on 5 September, police said.

It comes after two men in their 20s and 30s were stabbed in a homophobic attack in Clapham, southwest London on 13 August.

The Met Police have released an image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

The pair were taken to hospital but have since been discharged.
