The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, has reiterated its commitment to strengthening local manufacturing and promoting Made-in-Nigeria products at its Focus Group Engagement in Lagos.
Held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, the event brought together government officials, industry leaders, manufacturers, trade associations, legal practitioners, and innovators who addressed challenges as well as explored opportunities in Nigeria’s industrial sector. In his welcome address, Mr. Babajide Sawyer, Overseeing Officer at NASENI Lagos Office, highlighted how NASENI is leveraging technology to boost local production.
Delivering the keynote address, Professor Anthony Kila, Director General of the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies(CIAPS), outlined six key factors essential for the success of Made-in-Nigeria products.
They included, scaling up to meet consumer demand(production), Maintaining high standards for competitiveness(Product Quality), balancing affordability with profitability(pricing), increasing visibility and consumer education(awareness) and building strategic collaborations for market expansion(partnerships). Emphasizing the need for continuous improvement, Professor Kila stated: “People,products, and processes that are better, are better because they’ve improved. There is no invention in the world that was born excellent. We must be deliberate about improving our Made-in-Nigeria products.”
He urged local manufacturers to apply these principles to enhance product development and drive Nigeria’s economic growth.
The highlight of the forum was the panel discussion, which featured industry experts, including Oluchi Odimuko Head, Sectoral and Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturers Association, Oke-Oghene Esin of NEXIM Bank, Ndirpaya Hyeladzira–United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Chris Oputa, Director-General, National Association of Small Scale Industrialists product quality.
The session, moderated by Nduka Enweliku saw the panelists discuss policies that would drive Nigeria’s industrial and technological growth through promoting made-in-Nigeria products.
