The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) returns tonight for its highly anticipated 11th edition, bringing together the continent’s most celebrated names in film and television.
Now firmly established as Africa’s premier celebration of cinematic excellence, the AMVCAs continue to honour the most outstanding achievements in storytelling, acting and production across the continent. This year’s festivities are set to unfold at the iconic Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, where a star-studded audience will gather for a night of showbiz brilliance.
Beyond its recognition of talent in film and TV, the AMVCA has also become a major fixture in Africa’s fashion calendar. The Red Carpet is expected to dazzle with a parade of cutting-edge style, as celebrities step out in trend-setting ensembles that reflect the continent’s rich and evolving fashion sensibility.
The ceremony will be aired live across Africa via the Africa Magic channels, bringing the energy, spectacle and emotional highs of the evening to millions of viewers.
What to Expect
Tonight, winners will be announced in 28 categories, including 10 decided by public vote, 16 by a judging panel, and two special honours: the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Trailblazer Award. The 2025 nominations span the breadth of African screen content, spotlighting works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
Films like Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, House of Ga’a, and Freedom Way lead the pack with multiple nominations in key categories including Best Movie and Best Director. Remarkably, five out of the eight nominees for Best Movie were streamed on Netflix or Amazon Prime, underscoring the growing impact of digital platforms on African storytelling.

This year’s Best Movie contenders include:
- Christmas in Lagos (Amazon Prime)
- Farmer’s Bride
- Freedom Way
- House of Ga’a (Netflix)
- Inkabi (Netflix)
- Lisabi (Netflix)
- Skeleton Coast
- Suspicion (Amazon Prime)
Leading the nomination count is Netflix’s Seven Doors with 11 nods, followed by Lisabi with 10. House of Ga’a and Inkabi each received six nominations, while Christmas in Lagos earned five.

In the top acting categories, Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Stan Nze (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors), and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi: The Uprising) are up for Best Lead Actor. Competing for Best Lead Actress are Chioma Chukwuka (Seven Doors), Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre), and Uche Montana (Thinline).
A new addition to the 2025 lineup is the Best Music Score category, created to acknowledge the integral role of sound and music in enhancing cinematic narratives.
The AMVCA’s four-day celebration of African storytelling culminated on Friday night with a colourful Cultural Day event. Tonight’s finale promises to be a grand showcase of talent, glamour and creativity as Africa’s film and television elite converge to discover who will walk away with the coveted golden statuettes.
