A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Haruna Maitala, has passed on.
Maitala, representing Plateau Jos North/Bassa constituency in the House, was involved in a fatal car accident that claimed his life on Friday, April 2.
The Nation learnt that the lawmaker was on his way to Jos for his first son’s wedding holding on Saturday, April 3.

A statement released by his media consultant, Joseph Adudu, read in part:
“This is to announce the death of Honourable Haruna Maitala which occurred yesterday, 2nd April, 2021 as a result of fatal car accident on his way to Jos from Abuja.
“Until his death, Haruna Maitala was the member representing Jos North/Bassa federal constituency in the National Assembly.”
Adudu disclosed that the rep member would be buried on Saturday morning according to Islamic rites.
He also offered prayers for the deceased, asking God to forgive his sins and grants him Aljanna fidau.
It was learnt by TheCable that the accident happened along the Abuja-Keffi road on Friday night.
According to a close ally he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, in Nasarawa state, around 11pm, but he did not make it.

“He was rushed to FMC Keffi but the doctors could not do much to save him.”
Nigerian lawmaker dies after brief illness
This is coming barely a month after another lawmaker, Yuguda Hassan Kila, passed on.
Legit.ng had reported that Kila, a member representing Gwaram federal constituency at the House of Representatives died in the afternoon of Thursday, March 4, at the age of 70.

He breathed his last at the National Hospital, Abuja after a brief illness.
Kila was chairman of the House Committee on Customs.
