The Crown has recreated the Princess of Wales’s famous catwalk dress in the second part of its final series.

The real-life Kate wore the see-through mesh dress during a charity fashion show, attended by her future husband Prince William, while they were attending St Andrews University.

Much written about in the tabloid press and in royal books, it is often referred to as the moment the heir became smitten with his future wife.

In 2001, the pair lived a few doors apart at St Salvator’s hall of residence and became friendly, socialising together and playing tennis.

She is said to have captured his attention at the March 2002 fashion show, for which the prince is said to have paid out £200 for a front-row seat.

Kate will be depicted by the actress Meg Bellamy in the second part of the final series of the hit Netflix drama, which is due to be released on 14 December.

It will depict William’s reintegration back into life at Eton College in the wake of the death of his mother, Princess Diana, in 1997.

The series will also dwell on his time at university and his romance with Kate, as well as Charles and Camilla’s wedding, and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.

The Crown debuted in 2016 and has aired six seasons – the last of which has been split into two parts.

The first part of the final season of the series, released last month, explored the events surrounding the death of Diana and Dodi Fayed.
