The Story Of Their 39 Years Friendship
On Sunday, 14 January, 2024, veteran actor, Prince Jide Kosoko held a Thanksgiving service at Embrace International Assembly, Ikorodu.
A reception party followed at his house in Ikorodu, Lagos. Many prominent people came out to celebrate with him, such as Mr. Tunji Balogun, Otunba Ojora Gbolahan, Alhaji Yinka Quadri, veteran actor, Oga Salami Bello, Femi Adebayo, Saidi Balogun, Lizzy Anjorin, Pa Aluwe, Taiwo Hassan, Dele Odule, Oludotun Oseni, Wunmi Toriola, Doyin Ikukoya, Vice President of TAMPAN (Mrs. Rose Odika) Eleyin Segun, Kunle Afod, Pa. Elesho, Ifankaleluyah, Lanre Hassan, Prof. Afeez Oyetoro, Olatayo Amokade (Ijebu), Seye Kehinde among others with family and extended family members.
The Thanksgiving started with a Praise and Worship by the choir of the church. The Bible reading was read by Otunba Ojora Gbolahan. Pastor Isaac Adeyemi led the sermon of the day which was followed with the thanksgiving celebration after which the General Overseer of the church handed him a gift. The First Lady of Nigeria was represented by Hon. Wahab Alawiye King and he passed a heartfelt message from the First Lady. After the thanksgiving ended, a live band performed outside the church to celebrate veteran actor, Prince Jide Kosoko. After which they all headed to the location of the after party at Ikorodu.
Foluke Daramola was the one who opened the event and a welcome speech was read by his daughter, Sola Kosoko.
Then, the Live band ushered the celebrant in with melodious songs. Ifankaleluyah called out friends and family who had Goodwill messages to say about the celebrator and the likes of Oga Bello, Saidi Balogun, Bidemi Kosoko, Temilade Kosoko, Sola Kosoko, Pa. Elesho etc. came out to say something about their friend, brother and father.
The celebration ended with a vote of thanks by Tunde Kosoko.
At the event, City People spoke with Alhaji Yinka Quadri to talk about Prince Babajide Kosoko and he talked about their 39 years friendship which according to him he has not regretted.
“I still remain Alhaji Akanni Olayinka Quadri, we came to celebrate with Prince Rafiu Babajide Kosoko who is celebrating his 70th birthday today. 70 years is not a joke, I give thanks to God for the gift of life upon him. Because we are not celebrating him on the sick bed, he is not disabled, we can only give thanks to God. if we are to count God’s goodness over his life, we will continue counting.
I’m using this period to say that he is my boss, my leader in acting and my brother in the industry. If we are to count the days we have been together you would realise that indeed we have come a long way. We have known each other since 1985 and we have been relating as brothers. In just a year it will be 40 years that we have known each other. I know his brothers, wives, children and even when his parent’s were alive they knew me and accepted me as their own child. Likewise he knows my families and my parents accepted him as their own child too.”
“We have done so many good things together. Even in the industry and to the world they know us as brothers. If we came from the same mother, we may not be closer than we are. We think together, we eat together, we sleep together, we work together, and we relate with each other since 1985 that we have known each other.
He is someone who does not keep malice. He does not bear grudges against anyone. We can say he is hot tempered, everybody has their own bad sides.”
“I have my own as well. But if Uncle Jide gets angry, immediately he will say it out and let go of it. Even if the person does not want to settle the issue with him he will call the person and settle the matter. Especially if he realises that what he said hurts the person, he will call himself to order and plead with the person. No matter the person’s status, may be the person is young, old, female or male he will beg and settle things with the person. He is a plain and straight forward person who does not back bite anybody. That is the reason he has been my elder brother till today.”
“I pray God should continue to give him long life, good health, and sound mind. This year will not be his last year, he will celebrate 80, 90, and centenary in good health, more wealth, and sound mind. And I also wish that for myself Isha Alla.
