State House, Abuja – On Wednesday, July 30, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, a close ally of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at the State House, Abuja.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of mounting speculation about a possible defection of Kwankwaso and supporters to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as a wave of recent criticisms of the Tinubu administration by the NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

Why I met Tinubu – Jibrin speaks
Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency and a long-time associate of Tinubu and Kwankwaso, revealed to journalists after the meeting that discussions focused on national issues of public interest.

Jibrin said:
“It is not a surprise to see me here because I have a personal relationship with him, I came to discuss National issues that are in the interest of the people.”
Dada Olusegun, the special assistant to president on social media, confirmed the meeting via a vide shared on his X page on Wednesday night.
He tweeted:
“Abdulmumin Jibrin addresses the press after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House.”

“Tinubu neglects the north,” Kwankwaso alleges
Jibrin’s meeting came days after Kwankwaso, the NNPP 2023 presidential candidate, accused Tinubu’s administration of sidelining the northern region.
The former governor of Kano state, Kwankwaso, alleged that Tinubu is using northern resources to develop the southern region.
Legit.ng reported that a former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, just like Kwankwaso, alleged that Tinubu is doing everything to destroy northern Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, on Saturday, July 26, asserted that former president Goodluck Jonathan should emerge as his party’s presidential candidate rather than Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
