On the surface there wouldn’t appear to be too many similarities between Cardiff and New York.

But the makers of an upcoming movie starring Mark Wahlberg have chosen the Welsh capital as the location for a stunt set in the Big Apple.

The Hollywood A-lister is in the city shooting Infinite, due out next year, in which he plays a schizophrenic haunted by memories of two past lives.

The star, most recently seen in Instant Family and Mile 22, stumbles upon a centuries-old secret society of people who possess total recall of their past lives.

Shooting started on Sunday, with a two-day closure of Newport Road where the famous cry of “lights, camera, action!” is being heard at the Mercure Holland House Hotel.

New York Police Department branded cars and American-style traffic lights have temporarily taken over the road.

Pictures of the cars and police tape were posted on social media.

The closure may only be affecting about 300 yards of road but it has involved bus and traffic diversions, leading to delays in the area.

Unsurprisingly, not everyone has been swept away by the Tinseltown glamour.

Twitter user @Railridesurf asked whether the Ted star had “any idea of the disruption your crew is making?”

They added: “Missing hospital appointments cost £160 are you prepared to pay for that?”

Meanwhile @Yazley thanked Wahlberg “for making my commute home from work extra long”.
