Twin Town sequel confirmed by director, ‘thank God’

The long-awaited sequel to the 1990s Welsh film Twin Town has been confirmed by the director, after he hinted at a possible plot line.

Kevin Allen, the mind behind the cult black comedy, shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday a picture of the new script.

Called Tin Town – Twin Town’s Wanton Daughter, the script is dated January 2017 and is presented as a draft.

“Some of us had to work over Christmas and New Year – thank God,” Allen wrote.

He also commented that filming would begin in June this year.

Twin Town, the 1997 dark comedy thriller set in Swansea, starred Rhys Ifans and his real brother Llyr as the Lewis Twins.

Abusing hard drugs, stealing cheap cars and singing karaoke, the brothers became a symbol of the 1990s petty crime scene in coastal Wales.

Allen had already hinted on a possible comeback in 2009, saying it would be a follow-up to the original story.

“I’ve changed and the city has changed – the landscape has changed a lot. It seems like the right time,” he said.

He said he had spoken to the Ifans brothers and they were keen to reprise their roles.

The film will be set in Swansea, 20 years after the first one, and Allen hinted at a possible plot line.

By calling the film “Twin Town’s Wanton Daughter”, the director could mean one of the brothers is now a father.

On the other hand, it could also mean they have moved town.
