Grammy-winning South African singer Tyla has expressed her pride in incorporating Afrobeats into her music.
The singer sees herself as a representative of Africa as a whole, highlighting the fluidity of genres.
Speaking in a recent interview with American Billboard, Tyla acknowledges Afrobeats’ influence on her music, citing it as a recognition of the genre’s impact.
“If people see it as the influence that the artist is using in their music getting its recognition, it’ll help more, rather than being like, “This person is not that,” the singer said
Tyla also revealed that her second album is set to drop this year. The singer hints that her upcoming album will take a different direction from her debut. Before now, Tyla’s classification within the diverse genre of Afrobeats has been described as ‘inaccurate,’ despite the fact that she’s an avid lover of the genre.
