The Supreme Court has announced the suspension of hearing in a suit on the Imo North senatorial bye-election which was held on December 5, 2020.
According to The Cable, the announcement was made by Justice Musa Datijo Muhammad on Tuesday, March 23.
Muhammad told other members of a five-man panel of justices that All Progressives Congress (APC) had accused him and two other justices of holding meetings with members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to subvert justice in the case.
“Let me confirm to all counsel in this matter that the Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had written a petition against me and two other justices of this court, namely, Helen Ogunwumiju and Abdu Aboki, accusing us of having a meeting with members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to subvert justice in the case.”
The Sun reported that Justice Muhammad described the petition filed by the APC as unfortunate.
He said that the APC had by the petition called into question the integrity, reputation, and honour of the three justices.
Muhammad explained that the issue must be resolved first before the hearing can resume.
Meanwhile, the APC has disclosed its ambition to remain in power and the centre of Nigeria’s politics beyond the sixth, seventh and even eighth term in office (that is 32 years).
Governor Mai Mala Buni, the chairman of APC’s caretaker extra-ordinary convention planning committee, made this revelation on Tuesday, March 23.
Buni said the ruling party will achieve this through the Governor Badru Abubakar 61-man strategy and contact committee of the APC inaugurated on Tuesday in Abuja.
